The real problem for Tesla is that the world has moved on since the heady "green boom" of 2006 - 2012. The halcyon days have faded when anything, "green' was instantly hailed as the savior of the human race !

Since Copenhagen, the talkfests have continued, but the general public has lost interest, and disillusionment has grown as more and more grand "green " projects have failed, leaving a vast burden of public debt, while others only continue to exist because of taxpayer funded subsidies or government mandates.
Governments are becoming increasingly cautious, as it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain the level of taxation revenue, required to fund government services, let alone funding grand social experiments, for ideologically based industries.
Tesla Motors, makes a fine product, supported by an innovative charging structure. Tesla, being a high priced vehicle is less vulnerable, and less reliant that other EV makers on government incentives.
But the truth remains increasingly obvious that Tesla, and all EV makers only survive in those auto markets where governments offer substantial support.
That support may continue, or it may start to diminish as new priorities become more politically expedient.
As a Tesla model S owner, and shareholder, it's only natural that I want the company to succeed. However, despite the astonishing loyalty (some might say fanatical ) of Tesla enthusiasts and shareholders, Tesla has a long and difficult road ahead, if the company is to achieve it's goal of becoming a high volume manufacturer.
Tesla with have to remain focused, while adapting and compromising. The company can no longer afford to be distracted by fighting long drawn out battles, for things it wants, rather than it needs.
Selling cars on the world market, creates a great deal of overhead. Tesla has been secure because of it's initial success in California and the vast sum of capital raised by it's IPO. But expansion, will continue to drain corporate reserves, and with sales dependent of the whim of government(s) support, Tesla's position will grow increasingly precarious.
The challenge is to become a mainstream seller in markets which are not subsidized, only then can Tesla feel secure.
