2008 Volvo S80 T6 AWD

2008 Volvo S80 T6 AWD

The awd Volvo S80 inspires confidence in snowy weather.

Editor's note: Today's Drive has become Short Stint, but the information is still the same--a brief impression of a vehicle that's been in our test fleet.

OUR TAKE: When an inch of snow slicks up the highway and the fog is so thick you can't see 50 yards down the road, driving an awd Volvo inspires a lot of confidence--confidence in the various electronic traction aids' ability to keep the car on the road, and confidence in your survivability should the knucklehead in the next lane overestimate his abilities.

This particular car came nicely equipped for life in northern climes, its seat warmers and cabin heat among the fastest to reach peak output we've tried--particularly inviting on a frosty January morning.

The seats themselves were terrific, both comfortable and supportive, while the ride was quiet and smooth, the suspension just gobbling up the frost heaves and potholes. The turbo six performed nicely and was well matched to this car, which is far from a sports car. If thinking about a car for all the seasons, the Volvo S80 is hard to beat.
