Hodgson’s side suffered a disappointing exit from the World Cup this summer as Joachim Low’s side cruised to their fourth title in Brazil.
England have since dusted themselves down and are now unbeaten in their qualifying campaign for Euro 2016, leading Group E by six points.
Germany, meanwhile, have struggled for form since defeating Argentina in Rio and are currently second in Group D, level on points with Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, following a shock defeat to leaders Poland and a home draw with Martin O'Neill's side.
However, Hodgson would still like his side to emulate Germany who he believes play a similar style of a lot of the European teams.
“I think the first thing you’ve got to do is make certain that you’ve got to emulate their pace, mobility and athleticism because there’s no doubt that’s the way the game is going,” said Hodgson in an interview on FIFA.com.
“The beauty for me, when there have been teams in the past, when you’ve watched the South American teams in the past and you’re working with a British team, it’s very hard for you to say, 'Well we’re going to play like them', because they’ve got qualities and different skills.
“They grow up in a different climate. Their flexibility is so different. It’s hard to do that. But when you watch a German team doing things extremely well, there’s nothing that should stop us, and other western European teams to say, 'We can work in that way too'.
“We can produce the players who are similar to theirs. The question is whether we can produce players as good, and a team that’s as good. That’s another matter altogether.
“But we’re not looking at a different type of player in a totally different style of play. In fact, it’s quite the reverse. I would say watching the German team and the way they play in style, there’s a lot of us European teams that try to play the same way, we just don’t do it as well."
