Hello from the Czech Republic! It's a cold winter here, which began back in December when I celebrated Christmas six times! I got together with my family, my wife's family, my ex-wife's family, and some friends, too, so we were ringing in the holidays over and over again. I have two children -- a ten-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter -- and they had a lot of fun around Christmas-time as well.
I play poker for full-time, but I also try to spend a lot of time with my family. Even though I play about five or six hours a day, I usually spend as much time as possible with them, and I am enjoying that obviously. For example, my son has been doing well in school lately, and so tomorrow we're going to go to a soccer match as a reward, so we'll be having a fun family day.
Speaking of my children, I've been teaching my daughter to play poker. She's not walking yet, but she's watching me play online and learning. She likes to see the pictures of the cards and she knows when they match and they don't match. It's very funny to watch her watching me, and really, she's on her way to being a great player already!
My son also likes poker, and in fact he's already playing on his own (for play money, obviously). He watches me play, too, and has asked me for advice regarding the game. So he's learning a lot as well.
They are getting a big head start on me when it comes to learning poker. I was about 28 or so when I first learned the game -- about 10 years ago. Watching my kids and how much they are able to learn so quickly, I'm realizing that as an older person it is harder to learn and improve at poker.
The game has gotten a lot tougher, too, with a lot of young players who are really smart and who study the game constantly, reading blogs and watching videos and absorbing everything. Nevertheless, I try to do what I can to improve myself, too, even if it has become tougher to do so as I am getting older. I have a few things on my side, too, like experience and discipline, which can help me counter that edge my younger opponents might enjoy.
So I keep at it. Heck, before long I might be learning some new things from my son and daughter, too!
